Fall 2023 Showcase
Keep it up!
Lee Ann Grunenberg | Age: 55 | First Place
My artwork was inspired by an AI sentence generator. My art instructor gave us (his Intermediate Drawing students) each unique sentence prompts, and my drawing evolved from an idea related to jazz music performers from Hawaii, keeping up the beat/rhythm and also their passion for performance. Keep it up also refers to the ongoing details and intricate patterns of my ink drawing on watercolor paper.

Cyberpunk Wars
Marcel Saragena | Age: 46
The idea behind this image was to see how far I can stretch the imagination of photographing at night. The inspiration came from a blend of Star Wars and the video game Cyberpunk 2077.

Spring 2023 Showcase
The Flow Of Life
Erica Po’opa’a | Age: 20 | First Place
“The Flow of life” communicates what it is to be human. It incorporates the high’s and the low’s of life by showing off it’s vibrant colors, we link to as emotions. As your eyes move across the piece, you see the changing colors accompanied by “The Flow” (or the deep, wavy sgraffito lines) which guide your eyes, representing the movement of life including the people you meet along the way and the emotions tied to them. Some of the lines flow together and others slowly fade into a different direction, emphasizing that like life, emotions and people are indeed temporary.

Transience till Tomorrow
Samantha Sumstine | Age: 19
The temporary nature of life was what inspired this piece – the visceral recognition that you’ll never see nor feel what is now ever again, but wish to capture every detail while the moment vividly breathes before you. Whether the place is now the same or has changed, was with a lover or friend, is living or beyond the living, my artwork wishes to convey the preservation of a memory held closest to one’s heart.

Don't eat the fish
By Naomi Freire | Age:19
It’s about the pollution of the ocean in hawaii and how it can affect our main source of food, fish. The aspect of the contaminated fish is inspired by Junji Ito’s manga “Gyo.”

Reflection
By Claudia Grajeda | Age: 39
We project what we want people to see but we are built in layers. Once people go through layers they can see who we really are.
